Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Anxious about hair transplantation? Questions regarding the procedure? Here are some of the most frequently asked questions for you to refer. Should you have any more doubts or queries, please feel free to write to us and we shall be more than glad to help.

What is hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a procedure in which hair is picked from the back of the scalp – where even bald men never lose hair – and transplanted in the balding region. Since the hair from the back of the scalp is genetically programmed to grow for the rest of your life, it grows permanently even when transplanted in the balding region.

Thus, you get completely natural, growing hair that is permanent and an aesthetic, youthful look.

Are the results permanent?

Yes, the results are permanent. The transplanted hair continue to grow for the rest of your life just like normal hair. They require no special maintenance. They can be washed, combed, oiled, cut and styled normally giving excellent aesthetic results.

Is hair transplantation painful?

Hair transplantation is not painful. In fact, it is so comfortable that while the procedure is going on, you can watch TV, read a book or chat with your friends on the phone.

Is hair transplantation safe? Are there any side effects?

Hair transplantation is absolutely safe and has no side effects.

Who is an ideal candidate for a hair transplant?

Men who lose hair from the top and frontal portion of the head (termed as Male Pattern Baldness or hereditary balding) are ideal candidates. Women suffering from hair loss can also benefit from hair transplantation.

What is the ideal age for hair transplantation?

Anyone above 21 years of age can undergo hair transplantation, if indicated. There is no age limit; we have carried out transplants even on people above 80 years of age. Your surgeon will evaluate if you are the ideal candidate for hair transplantation.

How is hair transplantation done?

The hair on the sides and back of the scalp are permanent in nature and even bald men don’t lose hair in these regions. In hair transplantation, hair is removed from these regions either in a strip or in small groups and transplanted into the balding region of the head. Once this is done, the transplanted hair continues to grow normally for the rest of your life.

What is FUE and how it is different from the Strip method?

FUE (follicular unit extraction) and strip method are different procedures but the final result is exactly the same. The placement of the grafts (hair) and the final aesthetic look of the patient is also same. The only difference is in the removal of the grafts – in FUE grafts are removed one by one or in small groups whereas in strip method, an entire strip of hair is removed.

How many grafts will be required in my case?

A hair transplant surgeon can advise you about the number of grafts after a personal evaluation of your case. This depends on how big your balding area is and the density of hair in your donor area (back of the scalp).

How long does the hair transplantation procedure take?

Hair transplantation is a day-care procedure. You arrive at the clinic in the morning and by evening, you can return home on your own. No admission is required.

How soon can I get back to work after hair transplantation?

You can easily resume work on the next day. No hassles of taking a long leave from your work. This adds to the convenience of the procedure.

When can I see the results after hair transplantation?

The newly transplanted hair is visible even on the day of the surgery. The hair starts growing gradually and you can notice the difference month after month. For the hair to grow to your normal full length, it takes around 9 to 12 months.

How is Hair Transplant better than other options for balding individuals?

Hair transplant gives you a completely natural look; the transplanted hair is permanent and it grows normally for the rest of your life. Other techniques, such as hair weaving, extensions, bonding, are only artificial and temporary; they often result in damage to your existing hair.

Is one hair transplant enough or does the procedure have to be repeated?

Hair transplant is generally a one-time procedure. However, if the person has a larger area to be covered which requires more than 3000 grafts, this cannot be achieved in one sitting.

Is hair transplantation an expensive procedure?
